
On Tuesday, a Palestinian man drove his car into an Israeli soldier. He was severely injured and then he was shot by Israeli police in the occupied West Bank. He was the fourth Palestinian to be killed in violent incidents that occurred throughout the day.
This was the latest violence in an increasing wave of Israeli-Palestinian violence following a Jerusalem bombing that killed two Israelis last week.
The violence started overnight near Hebron where fighting broke out between residents and Israeli forces. According to the army, soldiers opened fire on Palestinians who hurled explosives and rocks at them. It also stated that Palestinian gunmen opened fire.
According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, Mufid Khalil (44 years old) was killed in an Israeli attack and eight others were injured. They were identified by Wafa, the Palestinian news agency.
According to the Israeli military, troops in the village were attacked by firebomb-throwing suspects. Soldiers responded with live fire. Later, a Palestinian driver drove his car into an Israeli pedestrian in the West Bank near Jerusalem. The army claimed it was a deliberate attack.
Camera footage captured the vehicle turning and slowing down in front of the woman before it accelerated and ran her over.
As the driver drove away, she was thrown in the air. Later, the Israeli army confirmed that she was a soldier.
The driver was chased by police and shot. Rani Abu Ali (45), a resident of Beitunia in West Bank, was shot and killed at a Jerusalem hospital.
Tensions between Israelis, Palestinians have been rising for months due to nightly Israeli raids on the West Bank. This was triggered by a series of deadly attacks against Israelis which killed 19 people in spring.
This year has been the deadliest since 2006, with more than 140 Palestinians killed in Israeli-Palestinian fighting on the West Bank and East Jerusalem. According to the Israeli army, most of those killed were militants. However, stone-throwing youths protesting Israeli invasions and other people not involved in confrontations were also killed.
