“This is my first trip to India as Treasury secretary. As India celebrates its 75th anniversary of independence, I am delighted to be there and prepare to assume the G20 presidency. Janet Yellen, ANI news agency quoted President Biden as saying that India was “one of America’s indispensable allies.” Yellen stated that bilateral trade between India and the USA reached an all-time high in 2013. We expect it to continue growing.”
She said that the Ukraine war was an outcome of Putin’s barbarism and added, “It’s not surprising that India is one of the fastest-growing major economic countries in the world. We are dealing with the lingering consequences of the pandemic and spill-overs from Putin’s barbaric war on Ukraine.
She tweeted that “The US relationship is strong with India and continues to deepen via trade, critical economic relations and shared values.”
I am visiting India to take part in the U.S. – India Economic and Financial Partnership. The U.S.-India relationship is strong and will continue to grow through trade, critical economic relationships, and shared values.

Yellen’s comments come as India makes clear it will continue to purchase Russian oil at a discounted price, which is good for India’s economy, despite efforts by the United States and its allies to impose a cap on Russian oil exports.
