Rampur turnout shows sharp decline; BJP and SP trade charges; EC declares all fair
In the midst of allegations made by Samajwadi Party about gross anomalies in polling during the three by-elections in the state on Monday morning, Rampur Sadar Assembly seat saw a sharp drop in voter turnout compared to March’s Assembly elections.
Rampur Sadar had only 31.94% polling at 5pm, one hour before the end of the scheduled voting. This is compared to March’s 56.61%. Khatauli had 56.46 percent voter turnout until 5 pm. In March, the turnout was 69.79%.
Over 53 percent of Mainpuri Lok Sabha seats were polled between 5 and 5. 56.67% of the votes were cast in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, when SP patriarch Mulayam Sing Yadav won for the fifth consecutive time.
Record voting registered at Odisha’s Padampur Assembly Bypolls
Officials said that a record 80.5 percent of voters were registered in Monday’s by-election for the Padampur Assembly seat, Odisha’s Bargarh. The vote ended peacefully, despite the threat from the Maoists in a few areas.
Monisha Banerjee, a Bargarh district collector, said that the latest information shows that the voting percentage has been estimated at 80.5 percent. Official sources indicated that the final percentage of voting could change. The 2019 Assembly polls saw a total of 79.05 percent in the constituency. We did not find any irregularities in the locations, despite having received complaints from some booths. Banerjee stated that voting ended peacefully, and the EVMs were being kept in a strong room with adequate security.
70% turnout in Rajasthan bypoll
Officials said that a total of 69.91% voted in the Sardarshahar Assembly constituency of Rajasthan on Monday. Voting began at 8 a.m. amid tight security at all 295 booths in the segment.
Officials claim that 69.91% of the 2.89 million registered voters in the constituency saw polling from Monday to Friday, at 5:30 p.m.
Officials said Monday that 57.9% of the 3.11 lakh Bihar voters exercised their right to vote in the by-election for Kurhani assembly seat.
They said that polling started at 7 a.m. across 320 booths within the constituency. It continued until 6 p.m. All booths were manned by paramilitary and central police forces. Due to the disqualification by RJD MLA Anil K Sahani, a by-poll has been held for the assembly segment of Muzaffarpur.
In Bhanupratappurin, Chhattisgarh’s Maoist hit Kanker district, 64.86 percent of voters participated. Polling began at 7 a.m. under tight security and ended at 3 p.m. on Monday. An official stated that the polling was peaceful.
The constituency was reserved for Scheduled Tribes and seven candidates were contested, but it was largely viewed as a contest between the ruling Congress (BJP) and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party.
Rampur Sadar polling was slow with the assembly segment held earlier by Azam Khan of Samajwadi Party, recording around 33.94% turnout. PTI reported that the Khatauli segment voted at 56.46 percent. PTI reported that more than 81 percent of the 2.57 lakh Padampur voters exercised their franchises in the byelection. However, voter turnout in the other segments was 72.09% in Sardarshahar and 58.9% in Kurhani. And 64.86% in Bhanupratappur.
