New York (USA), December 10, 2010 (ANI): India reiterated its position that diplomacy and dialogue remain the best ways to reduce tensions between Russia, Ukraine, and bring them to the negotiating table. “We have stressed that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only way forward. Answers that exacerbate the conflict must be avoided. Rather, all efforts should be made for de-escalation and bringing both sides to the negotiating table. The Council will recall that India has called for an immediate cessation in hostilities since the outbreak of conflict in Ukraine. This is a matter of deep concern to the international community.
Kamboj stated, “In a globally connected world, the effect of the conflict is not limited to Europe.” We have all suffered its consequences in terms of rising costs and shortages of food grains and fertilisers,” she said, as she reiterated India’s support for humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.
India has sent 12 humanitarian aid packages to Ukraine thus far, and is ready to assist more.
Kamboj stated that India is providing humanitarian assistance to Ukraine as well as economic support to its neighbours in economic distress at the UNS briefing. Kamboj said that it is against the interests of everyone to escalate violence and hostilities. Kamboj stated that millions of people are homeless and forced to seek shelter in neighboring countries. “We have always argued that no solution to the problem can be reached at any cost to human lives. Escalating hostilities and violence is not in anyone’s best interests. “We have asked for an immediate cessation in hostilities and a return to the path dialogue and diplomacy,” Kamboj stated. (ANI
