
New Delhi –Congress Lok Sabha MPs and Trinamool Congress lawmakers walked out from the House Wednesday morning, accusing the government not allowing them to discuss the sensitive India/China border issue.
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury was the leader of the House and demanded that there be a discussion about the “Indo China Border Situation”. This was because the late Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru allowed Lok Sabha discussion on the 1962 India-China War.
“We demand a discussion on the India-China boundary situation. JawaharlalNehru gave 165 MPs the opportunity to speak in 1962, when India-China was at war. After that, a decision was made about what to do,” Mr Chowdhury said.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla stated that he would respond to the Congress leader’s request and that a decision on the matter will be taken at the Business Advisory Committee meeting.
While the Speaker carried out the House’s business, the Congress along with the TMC staged protest and accused government officials of refusing to permit a discussion on India-China borders.
TMC member, Sudip Bandyopadhyay raised the demand that the House have a discussion. He also said that his party members had organized a walkout against the government’s “attitude”.
An earlier in the day, opposition members had marched out of Lok Sabha to protest various issues.
As soon as Congress met for the day members of Congress and the DMK wanted raise some issues.
One of the members showed a printout that contained the words “Justice For Stan Swamy”.
The Speaker stated to the protesting members that Question Hour was an important time and was open to all. But they wanted to raise other issues.
Later on, members of Congress and the DMK, NCP, and National Conference among other groups, walked out of House during Question Hour. Some were heard shouting “nahi Chaega (this will not be done)”.
Some of them however returned to the House later.
A US-based firm of forensics claimed on Tuesday that digital evidence used in Father Stan Swamy’s arrest in the Bhima Koregaon Case was “planted” on Stan Swamy’s computer.
Stan Swamy (84), was an accused of the Elgar Parishad–Maoist links matter. He died in July 2021 while waiting for interim bail because of medical reasons.
