Israel and India are “natural allies”, who are united by a fundamental dedication to democratic ideals, according to Israeli President Isaac Herzog. He made rare appearance at an exhibit here that featured Indian temple rituals and deities.
Herzog was present at a cultural event held at the Israel Museum Thursday evening in order to inaugurate the new exhibit titled “Body of Faith: Sculpture From the National Museum of India”. He described the exhibition as a result of growing friendship between the two nations.
“India and Israel are natural allies. They share a fundamental commitment towards the democratic ideals on which both of our nations were founded. He said that this evening transcends politics and commerce, even diplomacy.
“This evening shines light on our shared humanity while paying homage to the rich history, cultural legacy of Indian people,” Herzog said. Herzog made an unusual appearance due to “his love of India”.
The Israeli President stressed that this exhibition, which literally means “spirit within matter” in Hebrew, was yet another result of growing friendship between India and Israel and a reflection on the deep resonance of art and culture that our countries share.
PTI was told by a spokesperson for Israel Museum that the display includes 14 large-scale Indian sculptures made between the fourth century and the thirteenth century. An Indian-origin fragrance and spices are a major focus of the Jerusalem exhibition.
