To achieve its Rs 1 trillion export target, the Rajasthan government has finalized initiatives such as technology support and hosting trade fairs.
“The state’s exports in 2021-22 increased by Rs 72,000 crore, compared to over Rs 52.700 crore a previous year, and the state is trying to increase this figure to Rs 1. trillion in the next two-years,” stated Rajiv Arora (chair of Rajasthan Small Industries Corporation) and Rajasthan Export Promotion Council.
The REPC is an independent body that facilitates export across all sectors. It provides inputs to both the state and central governments on issues such as policy formulation and infrastructure.
He said that despite not having a port the state was experiencing strong growth in exports due to the government’s industry-friendly and exports-friendly policies.
More than 9,000 exporters registered with REPC in the last year and half.
Rajasthan has always been a strong exporter of handicrafts as well as gems and jewellery.
In order to stimulate exports, Rajasthan has included measures that promote export-oriented units in its earlier notified industrial or sectoral policies.
Current estimates put Rajasthan’s share of India’s total merchandise exports at 2 percent.
Exports by the state to more than 200 countries, with top destinations such as the USA, UK, Hong Kong and Germany accounting for approximately 50% of the importing countries.
Senior industry officials stated that workshops were being organized under Mission Niryatak Bano, the Become Exporter Mission program. They also stressed that efforts were being made in order to offer platforms for new exporters.
Under Mission Niryatak Bano the REPC will organize mega trade shows if all majorly export commodities of the state are included, provide quality/technology support for industries, and offer skill training. The International Export Expo, which will be held in Jodhpur from March 20-22 next year, is likely to be a landmark.
