Starring Akshay Kumar, Ram Setu will begin streaming on Prime Video starting December 23rd, Amazon announced Wednesday.
The Hindi-language action-adventure movie, directed by Abhishek Sharm of Parmanu fame and Tere Bin Laden fame was released in Indian theatres in October around Diwali.
Ram Setu also stars Jacqueline Fernandez, and Nushrratt Bharuccha. They follow an atheist archaeologist who becomes a believer ( Kumar), who must race against the clock to prove the legend Ram Setu’s existence before evil forces decimate the pillar of India’s heritage.
Ram Setu is also known as Adam’s Bridge or Rama’s Bridge. It’s a series of natural limestone shoals that runs between the southern coast of Tamil Nadu, India and the northern coast of Sri Lanka.
The bridge is mentioned in the Hindu epic Ramayana. It was constructed by Lord Rama’s army, who saved Sita from the clutches Sri Lanka ruler Ravan.
Kumar stated that Ram Setuis an Indian film and is happy to see it reach a wider audience through Prime Video.
“The film received positive feedback during its theatrical release, and we are excited about taking it to our audience far and wide.
In a prepared statement, the actor of 55 years said that the film was well-researched and that it “not only brings out the authenticity of storytelling but also gives viewers an immersive experience through the state-of-the-art VFX technology that further enhances its narrative.”
Produced on a budget reported at Rs. 150 crore. Ram Setu received negative reviews. It was a box-office bomb that earned just Rs. 93 crore in its theatrical run.
Ram Setu is Amazon’s first theatrical production in India. It was produced by Amazon Studios and Kumar’s Cape of Good Films. Lyca Productions and Abundantia Entertainment were also involved. Zee Studio managed theatrical distribution.
Ram Setu will be available December 23rd on Prime Video India and all around the globe.
