
Mexico’s angry mob poured water on a tourist who was clueless and demanded she be imprisoned after she had climbed the Mayan pyramid. She was also filmed on the steps.
The unidentified woman is believed to be Spanish and caused outrage Monday by refusing to climb the Mayan Temple of Kukulcan in Chichen Itza. This was one of the 7 New Wonders of the World in 2007.
She gyrated and waved her arms after reaching the top. This drew loud jeers from tourists who were watching her crazy antics from below. They called the visitor disrespectful an “a-hole” or an “idiot” in Spanish.
In the background, you could hear chants in Spanish of “jail… jail… jail” and “lock him up”.
The blonde woman, wearing bright-red tights, a T-shirt and bright-colored tights, entered the temple room before climbing the 365 steps of the pyramid. Officials from the Mexican Institute of Anthropology and History met her at the base, along with a furious crowd.
Viral videos have circulated on TikTok, Twitter. In them, angry onlookers see the tourist being drank water from plastic bottles and calling her “stupid” in viral videos.
Officials take her away, and some people bystanders knock off the woman’s head and pull her hair.
The local police arrested the unnamed woman and gave her a fine for climbing the site’s world heritage site. It has been closed to the public since 2008 in order to prevent erosion, destruction and graffiti. Riviera Maya news reported .
Mexico’s Federal Law on Monuments and Archaeological, Artistic and Historical Areas imposes penalties ranging from $2,500 to over $5,000, depending on how severe the damage is to protected sites.
Monday’s statement by the National Institute of Anthropology and History stated that El Castillo temple (also known as El Castillo) has not been damaged.
