
KYIV: Russia On Wednesday, it said that it would resume participation in the agreement that allows grain exports to be freed from wartorn. Ukraine Moscow reversed a decision that had been condemned by world leaders as threatening to worsen global hunger. Moscow announced the abrupt reversal immediately after TurkiyeThe UN and Ukraine helped to keep the grain flowing for many days, without Russian involvement in inspections.
According to the Russian defense ministry, the u-turn was justified by the fact that it had received assurances from Kyiv not use the Black Sea grain corridor in support of military operations against Russia. Kyiv didn’t comment, but it has repeatedly denied using the agreed shipping route as cover for attacks.
The Russian ministry stated that Russia considers the current guarantees sufficient and has resumed implementation of the agreement. On Wednesday, Russian President Putin stated that Moscow had the right to withdraw from the agreement. Putin stated that Russia demanded assurances that Ukraine wouldn’t launch attacks from the Black Sea areas covered by the agreement in exchange for its rejoining the pact. He said that Russia would not stop grain shipments from Ukraine to Turkiye if it pulled out of the agreement again. Turkish President Tayyib Erdogan stated that Russian defense ministerSergei Shaigu had informed his Turkish counterpart that the deal would be resumed.
